ARC Raiders has completely consumed my gaming hours lately. Embark Studios has delivered an extraction shooter that nails the trifecta of fluid movement, nerve-wracking tension, and gorgeous visuals. Without question, it ranks among my favorite releases this year. That said, we need to address something important about the skill tree. The customization options are impressive, but not every perk delivers on its promise. In fact, some are actively working against you. Community members have crunched the numbers, and the evidence confirms that at least one widely-used skill is nothing but a waste of a slot.
Calming Stroll is a useless perk, and I proved it.

The “Calming Stroll” Scam (ARC Raiders Calming Stroll)
Calming Stroll is the culprit here. The description sounds appealing at first glance: enhanced stamina regeneration while walking. The intended strategy seems obvious. Sprint until your stamina depletes, switch to walking for rapid recovery, then resume sprinting. Sounds like smart resource management, right?
Not even close.
Reddit user this-food9601 decided to abandon faith in tooltips and embrace cold, hard data instead. They conducted multiple timed tests in the practice range, pitting the Calming Stroll technique against standard jogging. The findings are devastating for anyone running this perk.
The Math Doesn’t Lie
The testing revealed these movement speeds:
- Sprinting Speed: approximately 6.32 m/s
- Jogging Speed (Default): approximately 3.65 m/s
- Walking Speed (Toggle): approximately 1.98 m/s
The fundamental issue becomes clear immediately. Walking speed is brutally slow. Yes, your stamina recovers faster while walking (around 14 seconds to full compared to 22 seconds while jogging), but the distance you sacrifice by crawling along at that pace destroys any potential benefit.
Consider this scenario: You and a teammate both exhaust your stamina at the same location.
- Your teammate: Continues jogging to regenerate stamina.
- You: Toggle walk mode to activate Calming Stroll.
When your stamina finally hits full, your teammate has already covered 23 meters more ground than you. Sure, you can resume sprinting before they can, but starting from so far behind means you burn your entire stamina bar just closing the gap.
Here is the kicker. The moment you finally catch up to your teammate, they have also recovered their stamina and started sprinting again. The outcome? Both of you occupy the same position, moving at identical speeds, except you have already consumed 35% of your stamina just to reach parity. Meanwhile, they have a full bar ready for the next engagement.
Why Does This Exist?
This represents a classic “Noob Trap” in game design. The skill appears efficient to newer players who haven’t mastered the movement system yet. It exploits the satisfying sensation of “faster recharging” while completely ignoring the devastating net loss in overall velocity.
As the Redditor accurately stated, there is “absolutely no justifiable reason” to equip this perk for traversal purposes. Unless your playstyle involves roleplaying as a casual hiker wandering through active combat zones, you are throwing away a valuable skill slot.
Don’t Panic, But Don’t Pick It Again
Before you immediately spend resources on a character reset, take a breath.
ARC Raiders does not punish you like a traditional RPG where a single poor skill choice cripples your entire build. Most perks in this game provide incremental advantages rather than transformative power spikes. Having Calming Stroll equipped will not automatically doom you in firefights. There is no urgent need to drain your resources fixing this mistake right now.
However, when you eventually respec (whether through completing an Expedition or paying the steep 125,000 Coins fee), do yourself a favor and skip this perk entirely. Invest that slot in something that genuinely improves your survival odds. Moving slowly across open terrain is an excellent method for catching a sniper round, not for securing victories.
Major credit goes to this-food9601 on Reddit for conducting this research so the rest of the community can avoid wasting precious skill points.
